About John Edward Fowlkes died at 3:15 PM Oct. 11, 2020 after a brief illness. He is a 1964 graduate of Hereford High School. He was born in Hereford. After High School he attended Texas Tech University then volunteered for the draft and went into the Army where he became a Special Forces Green Beret and was sent to Vietnam. He was wounded seriously three times and lost a kidney. He was also exposed to Agent Orange. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, two Bronze star Medals and three purple hearts along with numerous medals from foreign countries. After discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Texas School of Law and graduated with honors. He then worked for the Travis County, Texas District Attorney Ronnie Earl and was his Office Administrator. Because of injuries suffered in Vietnam, he retired from the practice of Law and has been living in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, He is survived by his sister JoAnn Cohen and husband Neal of Bethel Connecticut, brother James of the home, Judy Jarman and husband mike of Fresno, Ca., and brother Jerry and wife Paula of Spring,Texas. Burial to be in Berryville, Arkansas..
